The year was 2020, I was laid off in March. I graduated from university a month later, and by September I was still struggling to find work again. As time went on, I began to fill my time with new hobbies. I learned to skateboard and to sew. Then I bought my own skateboard and sewing machine. And with enough practice, I got pretty good! As I kept on with YouTube tutorials, I eventually learned how to ollie. Then over time I made friends at the skatepark and they taught me how to pop-shove-it and drop in and land jumps. And the same went for sewing. I learned how to sew a shirt, then a skirt, then a bag. I always knew it was possible to learn informally but I never realized how easy it could be once you just commit. Now the skateboarding has fallen to the wayside since I’m now working again and too scared to have to take time off from injury BUT the sewing continues! And since then, I’ve learned new skills like 3D design. I am a huge advocate for “self-teaching”. There are so many free and/or affordable resources available to learn new things and it is so exciting!
This is all to say that, like many, I am interested in a lot of things and I am very indecisive. I am driven to learn from the generous, skill-sharing strangers online, from my peers and colleagues, and from you! Please enjoy my collection of creations in my attempt to showcase that I am a motivated learner and a great worker.
I have a BA in Creative Industries, with a focus in Music and Media Business, from Toronto Metropolitan University and I am currently studying Digital Media Marketing at George Brown College. As I continue to build my portfolio and develop my skills in digital marketing, I hope to eventually work in creative design and production.
